
Secretary General
The Irish Chamber of Shipping (ICoS) is Ireland’s principal trade association for the shipping industry. It is a membership organisation and represents ship-owners and operators in all sectors and trades in Ireland. ICoS is Ireland’s representative at the European Community Shipowners’ Association (ECSA) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).
ICoS’ Mission is to be an effective and influential voice for the shipping industry in Ireland. ICoS represents its members at ICS, ECSA and on other national and international bodies and forums, influences policy in relevant areas and ensures members are properly informed on developing issues. Through collective action ICoS promotes continuous development of the shipping industry in Ireland.
The ICoS vision is to be a dynamic and influential voice for the shipping industry in Ireland and with that aim they now wish to appoint a Secretary General who will champion their mission and strategy both domestically and internationally. The Secretary General will report to the President of the ICoS and the Chamber Council of Representatives.
It is envisaged that this role will require a minimum of 23 hours per week.
Key deliverables will come under the following headings:
1. Build the influence, profile, and representative voice of the Irish Chamber of Shipping nationally and internationally
2. Promote improved shipping, fiscal, employment and environmental (in particular, decarbonisation) policy and regulation
3. Develop and promote an improved cross-industry safety culture to reduce accidents
4. Ensure the Chamber maintains and enhances its value proposition to its membership.
Experience:
Applicants should have:
Excellent communication skills with the ability to quicky distil and present complex information either orally or in writing.
A strong interest in public/international / environmental affairs.
An understanding of policy development and regulated environments.
The ability to grow networks within the maritime, government and international organisations that interact with and effect the Irish shipping industry.
A knowledge of the maritime sector would of course be helpful but it is not a prerequisite.
